Ringwoodite

Ringwoodite -  Porto Velho (Brazil)

Ringwoodite is a mineral, found within a diamond. It contains 1,5 % of water (hydrogen and oxygen ions). Vast portions of a transition zone between the Earths upper and lower mantle consist of Ringwoodite. This means there is a huge amount of water trapped within these minerals. The inner earth could house much more water than there is in our oceans. Even other planets in the solar system could contain huge amounts of water.

The Ringwoodite educational installation in Porto Velho learns visitors about the geology of our planet and the extraordinary Ringwoodite mineral.
