Naiads

Naiads - Tomasee (Switzerland)

Naiads are a type of female spirits. They protect wells, springs, streams and other bodies of fresh water. They were to be found along and nearby a spring. If a fresh water spring would dry up, the Naiad would dy too. This protective female mythological creature reflects how the Greek and many other cultures once looked at water. In the last centuries humans lost their relationship towards water. They polluted and depleted water sources. To honour the importance of water and the water sources an artist collective sculptured many stone Naiad statues. They remind us that we need to respect the springs where the mighty rivers come from. Here you see a famous group of Naiads along a walking path at the source of the Rhine, the Tomasee in the Alps in Switzerland.
